The whole school assembly began with Vikki announcing the winner of the final allergy carton competition—“Nutterly” by Robyn in 4W. She also revealed a special prize for the most enthusiastic participants in the competition. Felix and Iman from 6B, who had submitted multiple entries, were both recognized and awarded prizes. Vikki and her team were very impressed with their efforts.
Following this, Mr. Wilson led a discussion on internet safety with the entire school. He asked the pupils how they used the internet and what they enjoyed doing online. The children eagerly shared their experiences, from playing games to researching for their homework.
He then introduced different online scenarios and enlisted Arty from Year 6 to help explore potential risks.
- What happens if you’re playing a game and suddenly a notification appears, offering free extra coins?
- What if a pop-up claims you’ve won a new house as a prize?
Through these discussions, the children learned the importance of not engaging with suspicious links and always informing a trusted adult when encountering such situations. The assembly was highly engaging, and the students grasped the significance of staying safe online.
As the younger children left to begin their day, Mr. Wilson continued the session with Years 6, 7, and 8, delving deeper into the importance of vigilance when using the internet. The older pupils discussed ways to recognize signs that online requests and pop-ups might be fraudulent. They appreciated the opportunity to share their thoughts and feelings, gaining a better understanding of online safety.
By the end of the assembly, pupils felt more confident about navigating the internet responsibly. They understood that if they ever felt unsure about something online, they should always reach out to a trusted adult for guidance.
