As part of the Children’s Mental Health week’s activities, Mrs. Stanley challenged year groups to explore a specific emotion and express their understanding through creative formats such as pictures, poems, and written extracts. She was deeply impressed by the creativity on display and the thoughtful engagement with each assigned emotion.
Through this exploration, pupils took time to reflect on their emotions, discovering ways to grow and feel their best. They learned that understanding and managing emotions helps us be kind to ourselves and others, equipping us to handle strong feelings like sadness, anger, or worry in a healthy way.
Mrs. Stanley was particularly amazed by the variety of submissions. Year 2H created a music video about Fear, Reception Billington designed a first-aid box for coping with Sadness—complete with glitter bottles to help calm big emotions—and Reception Manning-Swallow recorded a heartfelt video of themselves singing a song.
Though everyone worked incredibly hard, winners had to be chosen. Mrs. Stanley was proud to announce the following:
- KS3 Winners: Year 7 & 8 for their combined piece featuring personal reflections and poetry on Ennui.
- KS2 Winner: Year 3 for their wonderful poster on Disgust.
- EYFS Winner: Reception Manning-Swallow for their touching performance of “Lean on Me” by Bill Withers, which they bravely sang in front of the entire school.
The assembly concluded with enthusiastic applause for all participants. The winning classes were delighted to receive their classroom prizes, which they could explore and enjoy together.
To close the assembly, Mrs. Stanley reminded everyone of the wonderful selection of books available in the library—resources that could offer support, inspiration, and encouragement.
