Reception Assembly – Superworm

The children in Reception re-enacted the rhyming story of Superworm by Julia Donaldson for their class assembly, performing for their parents and siblings. This wonderful story explores themes of friendship, courage, and the importance of teamwork. We see how Superworm and his friends—the toads, beetles, bees, bugs, brother snails, sister slugs, Uncle Ant, and Earwig Aunt—work together to overcome challenges and outsmart the Wizard Lizard.

The children looked fantastic in the hats they had made, and they sang and recited their rhyming lines beautifully, much to the delight of everyone in the hall. Their performance demonstrated how even an ordinary individual can make a difference and overcome challenges through courage, friendship, and teamwork. The audience showed their appreciation with applause for this marvellous assembly.

Mr. Wilson was enchanted by the performance and congratulated the children for memorizing their lines and bringing the descriptive language to life through their actions and songs. He also emphasized to the audience that, through storytelling, the children were developing their understanding of story structure—the opening, the rising action, the problems that arise, and the resolution. These are all key elements for building language skills and vocabulary, which in turn support the children’s creative writing abilities.  Well done Reception for this wonderful and heart-warming performance!
