Sports at Infants

Physical Education is used to develop our pupils’ competence and confidence, and to encourage creativity. It promotes physical skills, physical development and knowledge of the body in action. The pupils are also taught about the importance of having positive attitudes towards active and healthy lifestyles.

Activities

Coopersale Hall’s physical activities in Years 1 and 2 include gymnastics, athletics, ball games and dance. All children take part in the Sports Days.

By the end of Year 2 the pupils will be able to play a variety of simple games and demonstrate an understanding of rules and basic tactics.  They should have the ability to apply the skills they have been taught such as kicking, throwing and catching, and will be able to remember and perform simple gymnastic and dance sequences with confidence.

Measuring Development

Pupils are observed in each lesson as part of our on-going ‘assessment for learning’. They are awarded twice-yearly grades for effort and attainment in each of the main activities they have undertaken.
