On Monday 5th December, the children in Year 5 enjoyed visiting the local care homes, Wensley House and Ashlar House, both in the Epping area.
The children were welcomed into the homes and enjoyed singing Christmas carols to the residents. They also took time to talk to these older members of our community, handing out Christmas cards that they had made.
Tommy in 5N felt that it was a lovely experience, not just for Year 5 but also for the elderly people because they sang Christmas songs and some of them got up to enjoy a little dance!
Defne in 5G went to sing carols at Wensley House. “The songs we sang were Winter Wonderland, Jingle Bells and many more. At the end we did asked the residents what they would like to hear again and they asked for Winter Wonderland. At the end we gave out cards that we had made in school. I really enjoyed singing to the residents in the home.”
A wonderful message was passed along to the school from Ashlar House:
‘She emailed me to thank me very much as the residents really enjoyed the singing today. She said the children were delightful and her husband is sadly bed-ridden and the children even sang to him in his room and he loved it.’
